An important announcement from the Board of the Aussie Farmers Foundation
Now more than ever, Australia’s farming communities are facing tough times; natural disasters, including prolonged droughts, are occurring at increasing frequency. They disproportionately affect our rural and regional communities, and recovery can be a decades-long process. The Aussie Farmers Foundation has recently completed a comprehensive strategic review consulting with many of our stakeholders to identify the best ways to support these communities now and in the future.
A key finding from the review is that a new, more collaborative, approach is needed to ensure rural and regional communities have access to the resources they need to improve resilience and recovery in the face of devastating droughts, floods, fires, and other natural disasters. To this end, we are pleased to announce that Aussie Farmers Foundation is a Founding Partner of the Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund, a ground-breaking initiative launched on the 11th September 2019 by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
As a Founding Partner, our funds will contribute to a growing pool dedicated to providing relevant, accessible, and flexible support to rural communities to help them build resilience towards, and recover from, natural disasters. By increasing the available resources, and improving efficiencies, the Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund will achieve a more significant impact than the Aussie Farmers Foundation could make on its own. As such, we have begun the process of closing the foundation and transferring our funds, more than $500,000, to FRRR’s Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund.
The Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund is strongly aligned with our mission and purpose. While Aussie Farmers Foundation will no longer exist, our donors can be assured that their generous gift will contribute to providing relevant, accessible, and flexible support to farming communities facing tough times.
Having worked with FRRR for many years, Aussie Farmers Foundation deeply values and shares FRRR’s belief that local people are best placed to know what will work in their communities. Strong networks and 20 years’ experience in supporting and championing rural, regional, and remote Australia make FRRR the natural home for the Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund.
From the beginning, our vision has been to support farming communities during tough times. With your generous support, Aussie Farmers Foundation has awarded more than $1.7million in grants to fund inspiring and vital projects, touching the lives of thousands of Australians in more than 200 rural and regional communities across Australia. While we will be sad to close the doors of the Aussie Farmers Foundation, our legacy lives on through FRRR’s Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund.
We want to take this opportunity to express a heartfelt thank-you to all our donors. Your commitment to supporting rural and regional Australians in tough times has inspired us for nearly a decade. We hope that you will continue this commitment by supporting this fantastic and timely resource.
